Rounding the Crotch (圆裆) for Tai Chi and Zhan Zhuang

This article was originally posted on February 8, 2011 It was removed by me (the author) on March 26, 2013 because the content is now included in my new book, Secrets of the Pelvis for Martial Arts: A Practical Guide for Improving Your Wujifa, Taiji, Xingyi, Bagua and Everyday Life.

My apologies to those who have bookmarked this article for reference. It came down to a choice between keeping this article or publishing the book. If you are interested in the original article, you can search the Internet Archive.

If you don't have a Kindle or iPad, don't despair. You can find free Kindle reading apps for your PC, Mac, tablet and more at Amazon and read e-books on your computer.

For this new e-book, I began with combining two of my blog articles, this article and "Relaxing the Pelvic Floor for Tai Chi and Zhan Zhuang". Both articles were greatly elaborated upon and expanded in this new e-book. The book also includes many more chapters and a ton more information that you won't find in this blog.

I hope you check out this book. You're sure to get a perspective on internal martial arts training that you won't get anywhere else!

The comments you see below are comments to the original article. While they don't make a lot of sense being now out of context, it's still nice to see that folks commented on this article.

  1. Hi Mike,

If you could, what would a three sentence summary be?

    Hugs mate,

    Mr Twenty Twenty

PS: I am doing a TON of what I do in poetry now. It's a great way to explore the opening and connecting - in a non linear and more feminine way. Seems to fit in with where you are exploring.

  3. Three sentences, eh? How's this?

Relaxing, allowing, "femur heads" rolling forward.

Legs and hip becoming feeling-quality-shape of stone arch bridge.

Evolving feeling, not imagined, seen by those with eyes.

    Cheers to you, Twenty!

  4. Is it true that you will achieve a spontaneous erection if the crotch is rounded properly?

  5. Regarding the spontaneous arising of various phenomenon during practice...the more I relax, let go and open, the more I experience any of a wide range of feelings and physical manifestations. I've learned to regard each of these as sign-posts.

Sometimes sign-posts are mere mile-markers and can generally be disregarded.

Sometimes sign-posts are alerts to a fork in the road and need to be paid attention to.

I've found it very helpful to be able to validate my experiences with someone more practiced than myself.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Wonderful Post! Have you ever thought about putting this topic out as an Ebook? "Internal Martial Art and the secrets of the plevis: a useful guide for improving your Taiji, Xingyi, Bagua, and other internal martial arts practices". I can see it now ready for download.

  7. Master Rundgren had a secret teacher. His metaphorical songs can be a lesson to any seeking internal strength and a relaxed pelvis. Notice his deep insite into Wujifa pricipals and tie ins to such topics as posts, sinking, sighs and losing the empty feeling in your body.

    Leroy, boy, is that you?
I thought your post-hangin' days were through,
Sunk-in eyes and full of sighs,
Tell no lies, you get wise,
I tell you now we're gonna pull you through,
There's only one thing left that we can do.

We gotta get you a woman,
It's like nothin' else to make you feel sure you're alive.
We gotta get you a woman,
We better get walkin', we're wastin' time talkin' now.

    Leroy, boy, you're my friend
You say how and I'll say when
Come and meet me down the street
Take a seat, it's my treat
You may not ever get this chance again
That empty feeling's just about to end.

Talkin' 'bout life and what it means to you,
It don't mean nothin' if it don't run through
I got one thing to say, you know it's true
You got to find some time to get this thing together.

Talkin' 'bout things about that special one
They may be stupid but they sure are fun
I'll give it to you while we're on the run
Because we ain't got time to get this thing together, 'cause we
Got to get together with a woman who has been around,
One who knows better than to let you down,
Let's hope there's still one left in this whole town,
And that she'll take some time to get this thing together.

We gotta get you a woman
And when we're through with you,
    We'll get me one too.
